Communicating Across the Generations
This, newly revised in 2008 with additional information on the Millennial generation , interactive workshop, with three- and five-hour versions, uses lecture, discussion, individual and small group work to:
- Increase your knowledge and understanding of the four generations.
- Enhance your understanding of how generational differences affect you.
- Provide you with skills for effective intergenerational communication.
- Expand your capacity to manage diverse working styles across the generations.
This workshop not only provides participants with information on the whys or hows of generational diversity, but provides usable tips and tools to deal with generational differences in the workplace and other organizations.
Past participants in this workshop state:
“This progam really helps connect the dots. In trying to find ways to motivate employees and get along with co-workers, Beverly and Hans provide realistic tools to help deal with generational differences.” (John Richards, Marketing Representative, Northwestern Wisconsin Electric Company)
“We put the information we gained to use immediately, and are still talking about it.” (Dan Conroy, Human Resources Director, Nexen Group, Inc.)
“About a year ago I attended a training session titled Communicating Across the Generations. The training was facilitated by UW-Extension staff and I found it to be one of the most enlightening courses I have taken since becoming a supervisor over 15 years ago. . . . This training assisted me in identifying these (generational) differences and provided me with strategies to utilize in the workplace. Now that I have had an opportunity to put these principles to work, I highly recommend this training for all employees. It has made a difference in the way we interact with one another as people while working toward common goals.” (Michael O’Keefe, Unit 504 Supervisor, Wisconsin State Department of Corrections.)
The University of Wisconsin-Extension Community Development Association awarded the authors their 2002 Quality of Teaching Award for their development of the Communicating Across the Generations workshop.
Train the Trainer Workshops:
Workshops to train educators to present the Communicating Across the Generations curriculum in workshop settings, are available upon demand. A Texas Cooperative Extension Educator who participated in this training states: “Your workshop and curriculum have given me many programming opportunties. I ordered your curriculum and have used it many times. I’ve been invited to several new audiences as a result of it. It is very popular here.” Leesa Wood Calvi, MA, CFCS, Texas Cooperative Extension
